Since the best food is food close to home, we'll be changing the meal plans according to the season we're in and the local foods that become available. As you will see, there's not a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables in this season's menu plan, because in the dead of winter, there aren't many available locally. In this season we rely on home canned vegetables, dried organic fruits, organic nuts, home raised meats (as storehouses of vegetable nutrients), organic whole grains, dried organic beans, farm fresh eggs and dairy products to get us through. Herbal teas are great for getting nutrition from our dried herbs and growing sprouts are an easy way to get fresh nutrients into our bodies. Seasonal eating may take a while to get used to, but I'd rather eat good food in the winter than a pesticide-coated fruit from South America! The Shopping List below corresponds with the Meal Plan and shows you what we have available at the store. Your first stop to fill your list should be your own garden and farm. Next should be your neighbors. Then you might try us or another small local organic store near you that needs your support! Our Google Healthy Meal Plan calendar can be viewed in Agenda mode for best viewing. Individual meals can be copied into your own Google calendar, where you can arrange them as you desire. Links to recipes are on the meal titles. |
